LOS ANGELES COUNTY EMPLOYEES

employees and their beneficiaries; controls and accounts for employer and
employee contributions to retirement fund, and manages investment portfolio.
DISTRICTS OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY

A partnership of 23 independent special districts serving about 5.7 million people
in Los Angeles County. Their service areas cover approximately 820 square
miles and encompasses 78 cities and unincorporated territory within the County.
They construct, operate, and maintain facilities to collect, treat, recycle, and
dispose of wastewater and industrial wastes. Individual districts operate and
maintain their own portions of the collection system. Local jurisdictions are responsible
for the collection of wastewater through local sewers and the collection
of solid waste. They also provide for the management of solid wastes including
disposal, transfer operations, materials recovery, and energy recovery.

Administers the police function of the County, and is responsible for enforcement
of all laws and regulations as required or requested by statute; participates
in programs for rehabilitation, prevention of crime and suppression of delinquency;
directs and coordinates emergency services; maintains security and assists
in the functions of the superior courts; and operates County detention facilities.

Serves the 9.5 million people of Los Angeles County with courtrooms spread
throughout the 4000 square mile County - from Pomona to Santa Monica and
from Lancaster to Long Beach as the trial court of general and limited jurisdiction.
General jurisdiction cases include Criminal, Civil, Juvenile, Family Law,
Mental Health, Probate and Appellate. Limited jurisdiction cases include Criminal,
Civil, Small Claims and Traffic.
TREASURER & TAX COLLECTOR, OFFICE OF

Administers and manages the County treasury, providing for the collection,
custody and investment of all County general, trust, schools, and special district
funds; bills and collects current and delinquent real property taxes, personal
property taxes; bills and collects transient occupancy and utility user
taxes for unincorporated areas of the County; issues and collects fees required
under Los Angeles County business and public health licensing ordinances;
collects monies owed the County for certain debts arising from the receipt of
services provided through County resources. Also, serves as the public administrator,
conducting investigations of decedents who resided or had property in
Los Angeles County where no executor, legatee, or heir has sought to administer
the estate; manages the estates of decedents when appointed by the Court.
